Especially the rise of the metaverse concept has further enhanced the appeal of XR virtual production, making it one of the hottest topics in the content technology field in the past two years.

XR virtual studio

The XR immersive smart studio, through the application of numerous high technologies such as multi-channel spatial stereoscopic display technology, wide-range infrared motion capture technology, physical PBR (PBR refers to the engine rendering of physical properties) real-time 3D rendering technology, fine-pitch LED seamless splicing technology and panoramic display technology creates virtual spaces that are realistic, creative, and adaptable to various scales, styles, and needs within a compact physical studio environment. It can simulate a wide variety of environments and enable the rapid production of a wide variety of programs.

In XR virtual production, LED displays are used instead of traditional green screens to display the virtual scene content in real time, providing a faster and higher-quality shooting method for virtual production. Through the LED displays, actors and hosts can see the CG (computer animation) content in the virtual scene in real time and interact with it.

Compared with traditional green screen and blue screen, it can save the cost of complex post-production, enables actors to interact with virtual elements better and achieve a more realistic and natural shooting effect. Therefore, it has been increasingly widely applied in high-end commercial display scenarios like advertising production and film shooting. Also, various TV stations have also begun to widely use EXCO Vision’s Apollo series products to build their own XR virtual studio.

01 BRTV

BRTV’s XR virtual studio completed the production of programs including “Who is the Champion-Guan Dan Elite Competition” and “Journey of Chinese Youth”.

The existing chess and card-related programs in China currently widely use studios with real environments and simple stage designs. Different from this, “Who is the Champion-Guan Dan Elite Competition” innovatively integrates digital technology elements and boldly use an immersive “XR extended reality” virtual studio. With 4K ultra-HD production technology and a fusion of cyberpunk and contemporary Chinese aesthetics, it offered audiences an unprecedented visual experience and greatly elevated the excitement of Guan Dan as a competitive sport.

02 Liaoning Radio and Television Station

According to the needs of program production and industry development, Liaoning Radio and Television Station updated the studio and featured XR immersive studio technology at studio 9, in which programs like Liaoning Life Channel and “I Love Liaoning Basketball” were produce.

03 Fujian Radio and Television Station

To offer cultural service for user better, Fujian Media Group built the first XR immersive studio in Fujian province. After that, they made full use of the XR technology to assist the Fujian Sports Lottery Center in live-streaming the award ceremony for the Fujian regional Super Lotto brand slogan and logo solicitation campaign.

04 Foshan Radio and Television Station

Foshan Radio and Television Station was dedicated to building the largest fixed XR omnimedia studio in GBA, enabling extended reality virtual production and serving as a production base that offers infinite vision for all enterprises and creative teams. On the afternoon of April 18, the “Convergence & Transformation — 2023 Foshan Media New Communication Power Launch Event” was held in this XR virtual studio at the Foshan News and Media Center.

The constantly upgraded and updated technologies brought broadcasting and television industries the most advanced visual experience. The XR technology gave broadcasting and television industries new forms and new scenarios in content production.
